A City Election is an election that occurs bi-annually on odd number years in November. A City election is used to elect the Mayor and Council Members for specific cities in Monroe County.

  Below please find some general information concerning the 2017 City Election for Albia, Lovilia and Melrose:
Arrow image The 2017 City Election will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
Arrow image Persons interested in running for Mayor or City Council should contact the Albia City Hall at 641-932-2129,  District Administration Office at (641)932-5165, Lovilia City Hall at 641-946-7711 or the Melrose City Clerk at 641-932-2129
Arrow image The candidate filing period begins Monday, August 28, 2017, and ends Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 5 pm.
Arrow image Nomination papers must be filed with the City Clerk by 5 pm on the final day of the filing period.
Arrow image Signature Requirements for Cities Without Primary or Runoff Provisions (dependent on the size of the city)
- For cities with a population of 3,500 or greater: at least 25 signatures
- For cities with a population between 100 and 3,499: at least 10 signatures
- For cities with a population of 99 or less: at least 5 signatures
